The keepin’ it REAL middle school curriculum by D.A.R.E. is an effective follow-up to the elementary program, building on the valuable lessons learned in earlier years. The focus of this curriculum is to equip students with R.E.A.L (Refuse, Explain, Avoid, and Leave) substance refusal strategies, preparing them for challenging situations and fostering healthy decision-making habits.

This research-backed program offers flexibility, allowing D.A.R.E. officers and school districts to tailor the subjects and class time to best suit their needs. What’s more: these classes emphasize active learning over traditional lectures, creating a dynamic and engaging educational environment. Proven to effectively influence attitudes towards substance abuse, the keepin’ it REAL middle school curriculum equips our youth with the knowledge and skills they need to lead drug-free lives.

7th – 8th Grade
Ten 45-minute evidence-based lessons teach students four ways to refuse drugs — Refuse, Explain, Avoid, and Leave. Using practical strategies for difficult situations, middle schoolers will learn helpful tools they won’t soon forget.
